Candidate Statement of Qualifications Form

• Candidate statements for local non-partisan offices can be no more than 200 words.
• Candidate statements for State Assembly and Congressional offices can be no more than 250 words.
• Candidates wishing to have their statement printed in the Marin County Voter Information Guide must pay the fee listed below. Statements printed in Spanish have additional charges including a translation fee.
• Candidates must provide a signed "not to exceed" check made payable to the Marin County Elections Department, as shown in the example on page 20 of the Candidate Guide, for the amount of the applicable contest.

I acknowledge it’s my responsibility to prepare and deliver my statement to be printed in the Marin County Voter Information Guide, as well as payment for the statement, and all related materials by the close of the nomination period. I understand that if any of the aforementioned is not filed in the time prescribed, my statement will not be printed.

I will abide by the prescribed rules and procedures of the Marin County Elections Department that will also include method of filing, statement formatting, and content requirements.

SENDING ELECTRONICALLY

Please print this form using the Print button at the bottom of the form next to the submit button and sign your name in the Candidate Signature text box. Email the completed Candidate Statement of Qualifications Form and your candidate statement to Dan.Miller@MarinCounty.gov.

• If you are running for office in a multi-county district, the following items must be submitted by personal delivery or overnight mail to the Marin County Elections Department within 72 hours of filing the statement electronically:
  a) A signed hard copy of the Candidate Statement Qualifications Form;
  b) Any additional materials such as endorsements, or certificates; and
  c) Payment for the Candidate Statement as instructed, made payable to the Marin County Elections Department.
• If you are running for office within Marin County only, the aforementioned items must be delivered to the Marin County Elections Department by the close of the nomination period.
  a) If returning by regular mail please use PO Box E, San Rafael, 94913,
  b) If returning by express or next day service (non-USPS) please use 3501 Civic Center Drive, Room 121, San Rafael, 94903.
  c) If you wish to authorize a third party to deliver in person you must include with your packet a Letter of Authorization with your original signature.

FORMATTING AND CONTENT

Your candidate statement will be reviewed to ensure that it is acceptable in format and content. If your statement is not in compliance our office will request that you change the number of words and/or certain language within the allowable time-frame.

Your candidate statement may include information about your education, experience, and other qualifications, and shall not include information about your party affiliations, memberships, or activities in any political party organizations. Listing memberships in or affiliations with organizations that are found to have distinct political inclinations may not be accepted.

Pertinent law and requirements are found in Elections Code §13307 thru §13312. Additional information including internal processes and procedures can be found in our Candidate Guide. It is strongly advised that you read and understand the rules before submitting your statement.

• Candidate statements must be submitted in electronic version, preferably in Word.
• Review your statement carefully and/or proofread with another person because you’re not allowed to correct typos or mistakes after the close of the filing period.
• You shall not directly or indirectly reference any other candidate, or refer to the qualifications of other candidates. The Elections Official will request changes to your statement if this occurs.
